Despite hailstorms and heavy winds, motorcyclists from all across the country and even overseas made the journey to the mecca of motorcycle gatherings, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Marking its 69th anniversary, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally covers the whole of the Black Hills region of South Dakota, and indisputably provides the most scenic roads of any motorcycle event in the country.
With such a broad landscape to cover, Vance & Hines deployed two Big Rig Display Trucks, one at Black Hills Harley-Davidson in Rapid City and another at the J&P lot in downtown Sturgis to showcase its wares to rally-goers. But as it has become the custom for riders to get new parts and accessories for their bikes at the rally, both dealers also equipped themselves with full service sales and installation centers for Vance & Hines products during the two-week long event.
Since Sturgis is really about the riding, it’s only natural that the most commonly seen motorcycles at the rally are Harley-Davidson Touring models. Likewise, it’s the most common vehicle spotted on the lifts and getting outfitted with new exhausts. Monster Oval slip-on mufflers have really taken hold among touring riders since their introduction last year, providing excellent power gains while yielding a deep and mellow tone that’s perfectly suited for long distance riding. But another strong seller was the newly updated Basic slip-on muffler (part no. 16571) featuring a redesigned internal core that reduces heat discoloration while also maintaining a more moderate exhaust note.
Another surprise was the number of dressers seen sporting the new Pro Pipe Hi-Output exhaust-system. Designed primarily to help modified motors produce maximum horsepower, the menacing appearance of its stepped design and flat back finish has made it a hit on a variety of touring bikes.
Coming up next for September, the Vance & Hines Show Trucks will be making their way to Street Vibrations in Reno, Nevada from September 23 to 27 as well as to Bikes, Blues and BBQ in Fayetteville, Arkansas from September 23 to 26. Stay connected at vanceandhines.com for more details.
